February: It's the time of graduate exhibitions, and I visited some of them last month- including my Setsunan R-division.
Every year I feel (and speak of) the increasing level of student work, but this year it is especially great and excellent.
For the graduate thesis or works, they must first prepare the logic for the problems of society, and then make a survey or do research, analyze those findings, and conclude the final answer by themselves. They have done this almost completely, so that the presentations were bursting with detail and information and beautiful.
There was one which makes a museum of networked exhibits in old Sakai Canal City, analyses many layers of history, and expresses Japanese spirit thorough the Cha-mind (the mind of “Tea”).
There was one which renovates the backside of a main road, changing a dark and messy place to be reborn as an exciting space.
Another one designs pure space for each individual family member with light refractions. It was so philosophical.
One featured a communication board for learning-challenged people, presenting a very beautiful, real community.
Also, there was one which creates a preschool-daycare space, networked in a commercial street. This long street looks like a very comfortable ground for kids, and neighbors along the street can take care of them from both sides.
Another one sets up a secondary structure along the Doutonbori River to help promote an active and exciting city.
There was also one that analyses the history and work of the people in the Rice-Fields of Kyoto, and protects and maintains this landscape with the beautiful renovation of barns. And this is the best of this year for me.
