TATEURI–Prebuilt Houses-

I'm not sure if we can still call it TATEURI, but the practice of building a house for sale without a buyer's involvement seems to be alive and well.

Recently such prebuilt homes are seen arranged into housing developments of around 10 homes because broader sites are not available. Nonetheless, those houses are quite cool and have good qualities.

The house in the picture is one of them.

The change is clear: now prebuilt homes are made of high-grade materials with high quality design. Even if they are not built by a large-scale housing company, this new grade has become the standard.

Around 20 years ago, TATEURI meant cheaply-made. This was due to the fact that the developers’ priority was the cost and profit, instead of quality. Houses produced by the big housing companies were equally questionable in their design.

Now we can see there has been great progress. The TATEURI business has improved to the point where it’s structures could receive the "Good Design Award,” and I have to say this was largely contributed to by the upgrade in building materials and the effort of the industry-leading major housing companies.

However, one problem is still left. It is the problem of the balance of the House and Site. In short, there is a narrowness of many sites which is hardly enough for the house itself.

I've been wrought here several times. Good dwelling circumstances are not only about the house, and a good house doesn’t mean good dwelling. A balance is required to have a better space to live.

Of course, we know that already. Although the companies’ values often allow another priority, I have a premonition that we’ll get to see excellently balanced houses in the near future.  We must not be inattentive in the current situation.

*Now, it's already December and this column is the last one of this year. I say thank you to you for reading, and I will strive to improve the content whenever possible in the next year. Have a merry X-mas and a Happy New Year!
